Zelda: Fragments of Power
A downloadable game for Windows and Android
Based on the original Zelda NES game, think of it as a third campaign with a few surprises. Takes place after the second game.
Includes a randomizer mode for extra runs, though it is recommended the original game is played first.
This project is not associated with Nintendo, and is not intended for commercial use under any circumstance. Please support the official releases.
This is just a passion project I've been tinkering with on an off for a few years. Since I am now currently working on my own IP, I figured it'd be fun to have people play this instead of having it collecting dust. Any feedback on it is welcome as it can help improve the quality of my next project.
Note: While this game tries to recreate most of the mechanics from the original, there might be some slight differences. The item drops are slightly different (bosses don't contribute to it), and enemies' vulnerabilities to certain weapons might be different in order to balance them out a bit since there are some new items.
An Audio Aid accessibility option has been added in V 1.0.7 to play visual effects whenever important sounds would be heard. It can be found in the settings menu.

Definitely one of the best Zelda fan games. This game does what Zelda Nes would do, only better, because even though the game is based on Zelda Nes, it is absurdly more fair, fun and really does what it does, as it throws you into the world, And then he said: Now it's up to you. Which isn't bad at all, the feeling of freedom is incredible here, and the times I got lost or frustrated it was my fault and not the game's fault. That said, this fangame is incredible and I highly recommend playing it!
Thanks a lot for playing it and the kind words! Is there any part that gave you a lot of trouble?
This is absolutely wonderful!🎩
In what game engine was this made?
This was GameMaker Studio 1.4. I would've upgraded to Studio 2 that came out mid development, but the way the licenses worked meant I wouldn't have been able to make android builds, so I stuck with it.
Heya, I got the map on shrine 4 and had some troubles. I cannot get to some of the rooms, there's no cracked wall to bomb either. I've watched the youtube upload and it didn't show it too! Btw this is probably one of the best games I've played on itch using mobile. You're a legend for creating this.
Hello! First of all thanks for playing! Hope you're enjoying it.
I'll look into this, it seems to be an issue with this map then, because some of the rooms there should not exist in the map. Did you by any chance clip out of a room through any walls?
I added an update that should fix this, thanks for letting me know!
*Trilicks* I give you my kitty triforce power!
(Warning: contains adult themes)
A reupload of this video.
Where is the Bomb Bag located? Granted, I've found Level 0-3 dungeons, but... a general hint would be nice LOL.
Nevermind. I think I found the initial bag in a dungeon, which gives you 8 bombs? Now we just have to refill it when we find a 'shop' that sells them?
Bombs drop from enemies as well!
A neat trick: Just like the original game, killing 9 enemies without being hit and then killing the 10th with a bomb should guarantee you get a bomb drop.
In case anyone wants to take a peek, chapomon streamed this game recently. You can watch it here, starting at around the 1:10:00 mark.

A peak? More like 90% of the game, he got through so much! (Granted I provided some guidance but still)
Fair warning, this stream contains adult themes both in terms of content and the interview.
I gave it a try on Android, but I gave up as soon as I realized my gamepad doesn’t work with this game.
I'll admit I never considered people would use gamepads on Android. I believe I might be able to make them compatible. I'd suggest playing the pc version instead if you're planning on using a gamepad though!
Yeah, I’m playing on an Anbernic RG353P with an integrated gamepad but it’s pretty easy to connect a gamepad to a phone or tablet. There’re even devices like the OUYA, Shield and Fire TV that don’t have any touchscreen input ability whatsoever.
Thanks for pointing that out, I will definitely add these for the next update. The only android device I own is a phone though so this will be hard to test for me.
Oh I didn't notice there were updates after I've played the game.
Hmmm... none of them seems to mention my issues so I'm going to post my issues here.
1. I can't purchase key here:
I can do that in 2 other shops though.
2. I can't get this reward:
3. In rooms with jumping enemies (bunnies and winged demon which spawns bats when attacked), they could jump out of screen north and never return. I had to leave and reenter the room to get them.
There's another thing, I don't know if it's glitch or not: picking up time stop in a room/map with hiding enemies (orange wizards and spiky burrowers) will kill them, or at least makes the game think that I've defeated them. In room with rewards for killing all enemies, the above glitch will reward me.
I have small doubt cause there's a room with 2 orange wizards and I picked time stop from one of them. I left the room and returned to find the remaining orange wizard is there.
Also after taking the second sword, white rocks appeared which could be destroyed with that sword. Yet similar white rock near entrance of level 5 couldn't be destroyed. I'm not sure if that's intended or not.
Heya DarkBloodbane, thanks for playing some more! This is really helpful.
1. The key purchase was indeed a bug, thanks for catching that. You could only buy keys if you had more than one already, which I'm surprised you happened to have when you bought them on the other spots. You should be able to buy keys once I post the update (shortly after this post).
That said, you really shouldn't need to buy keys. They were added sort of as a scapegoat in case I messed up a puzzle design in a dungeon so the player was never locked from progress, but in theory you should never need to buy keys. Dungeons have either the exact amount you need or sometimes an extra one or two.
2. You can't get the shield because you already have it, in fact you have it equipped in the picture. The first two shields are volatile, they can be lost, which is why there's more than one place to get replacements. (You just happened to find the one that's free!)
3. The jumping enemies were fixed in one of the updates. Once you update they should behave properly. If they still do weird stuff after an update, please post a screenshot of the room they're having trouble with, it would be greatly appreciated.
4. The time stop will temporarily disable any enemies that can become invulnerable like the Wizzrobes (wizards), Leevers (burrowing enemies) and Zora (fish guys). This is intentional as otherwise they would be frozen in an invulnerable state and you wouldn't be able to progress. They don't get killed however, just disabled, so returning to the room resets them. This is intentional.
5. I've tested this and found no issues. To clarify, only the Master Sword can destroy the white rocks. Were you using the Wooden Sword perhaps? The rock next to level 5 should work just like the others.
Again, thanks a lot for playing! Since you've progressed quite a bit, what are your thoughts so far? Also, if you have a rough estimate of how many hours you've played, would you mind sharing that?
I bought keys in shops thinking they would be needed somewhere.
As for shield, ah i see. I thought that's the 3rd shield. I think the free one is too deep to get since it requires two special tools to get them while purchasing it in shop is easier.
As for white rock, I forgot to wield Master sword to destroy that one. I thought the third sword (the one who can shoot regardless of health) could destroy white rocks also.
I couldn't give rough estimate since I play this for half hour a day. Hmmm.... I think at least total minimum of 5 hours.
Awesome game so far - with familiar terrain, and new things, and I love your way of granting them permanent items, but one addition to the screen could be a Help 'box' that does a brief blurb on whatever item you're highlighting currently? Since I'm not sure what the Blue bottle does. lol.
And, well, I was wondering - I found a place that sold bombs, and I thought I'd had enough money, but couldn't get them? Do I have to find the Bomb tool first?
Oh shoot! Yeah that's definitely unintended. In theory you shouldn't be able to get bombs until you find the bomb bags. But that was changed later in development after the item shops were made so I might've missed that. They should just not show up on the vendor until you have the bag. I'll add that to the list of fixes.
To answer your other question, the blue bottle is a health potion. You can't use it if your health is already full. You may also encounter a red potion that has 2 servings.
Ahh, that's why that blurb box might help LOL. I do remember playing it in my good old days lol when it came out.
The game's really faithful to the nes style of Zelda. That being said, I would be careful in case Nintendo decides to come knocking. I would add in settings for volume. Beyond that, nice job.
Here's my channel for other games I have played. https://www.youtube.com/@Levont
Left a comment on the video but thanks a lot for playing it! I took your suggestion for muting the audio and added it on a hotfix, as well as fixing a couple bugs I noticed during the video.
Finally found the courage (heh) to publish this! Please let me know if you find any bugs, though it has been pretty thoroughly tested, one person can only find so many!
